The WFTDA and Quad Media are working to develop resources for roller derby leagues & events wishing to broadcast their games.

Today we’re releasing the first volume of these resources: “The Roller Derby Broadcast Event Planning Guide,” a document for anyone involved in roller derby game or tournament planning.

In response to the pandemic and suspension of the 2020 season, we’ve also developed “The Broadcast Return to Play Guide” which features ideas for re-engaging fans & community after the unplanned downtime.

These guides are the first step in our plans to bolster roller derby video content by empowering leagues to self-produce or produce with assistance. Our roadmap for resources includes technical guides for streaming equipment, the look of roller derby on video, and ideas behind values-based broadcasting.

In the coming weeks we’d like to engage with derby leagues & event planners to discuss the recommendations in our guides and learn more about your plans, goals, and challenges for broadcasting. The near-term plan includes:

  • August 29th, 2020 Webinar for Broadcast Event Planning – Link to Register
  • 2020 Derby Broadcast Planning Survey
  • Revisions & addenda to the Event Planning Guide and Return-to-Play Guide based on community feedback.
  • Publication of more resources including:
    • Technical production guide (equipment suggestions)
    • The look of roller derby as a broadcast sport
    • Content guidelines including values based broadcasting, inclusion policy, portrayal of athletes, etc.

Please consider attending the upcoming Broadcast Webinar to review these publications and contact broadcast@quadmedia.tv with any additional questions or for consultation specific to your league’s broadcast needs.
