WFTDA liability during promotional events

My team was wondering how our WFTDA liability would be impacted if we didn’t have our skaters wear full gear for promotional events. For example, we wore full gear at a parade recently in the event that someone got hurt, but have a promo event coming up where we’ll be at a booth and skating around a little bit. Some people are wondering if they could just wear a helmet and no pads. Would that make our Personal insurance null and void, like it would at a bout?

Toss’er is on vacation but says she’ll respond when she’s back in the office next week.

Hi Legs, non-derby events and activities are generally not covered by our accident medical coverage. Parades are not covered, regardless of whether gear is worn. If you opt to participate in these types of events, please ensure your league knows they aren’t covered if they are injured while participating. Contact insurance@wftdi.com if you have additional questions.
